today

Today was a day of sleeping in
getting Christmas a bit closer to 'done'
going to the bank
printing a few little tiny pictures to fill ornaments
frosting cookies
taking a nap
wrapping Christmas presents
starting to get things organized to travel home this weekend
watching Oprah and Martha
picking up dry cleaning
dreaming of a 'put together' house
dreaming of an organized, cute, efficient craft room
finding the perfect gift for a friend
relaxing with my husband
sitting by the fire with my husband
listening to Christmas music
wishing for snow
can't wait for another day like this one- tomorrow!

Tales of the Mitten

Ok Scott- I know you are checking just to see these photos! haha

My kindergartners were doing some projects with mittens the past few weeks. So we decorated paper mittens (and even 'stitched' them up with yarn) and sent them out on adventures. It was so fun to discuss this idea with them... they brainstormed ideas of where their mittens might go and for the past two weeks mittens have been returning to room 13.

We had mittens go to Florida, Ohio, the coast, Eugene, and all over the Cascades. My mitten went to Lost Valley, OR. to stay on a cattle ranch. It helped feed cows, burn slash piles, and it even took a trip to town. Here are the pictures of my mitten with my husband (he's so cute!) and Scott.

The mitten is out feeding Saturday morning. brrrr

Brandon is letting the mitten get a close view of the cows, while my dog barks. (NOT a cow dog)

Our good friend Scott is LOVING the mitten project (gotta love a guy that gets into the spirit!)

The mitten wanted to ride on the back of the pickup, but it was too cold!

This cow thought the mitten looked like a friend!

Ok, thanks for playing along with the Tales of the Mitten. Let's hope he can come back next year! =)

Catching Up- note- this post was written Saturday morning, and finally posted Sunday morning.

Wow, how time has flown by. There have been so many times that I wanted to post, but until I can post by voice control from my car.... my posts will continue to be far and few between.
Last weekend we drove to Lost Valley (near Condon, OR.) to see our friend Scott and help him feed the cows while his folks were in Las Vegas at the NFR. It was an adventure just getting there! We drove through snow and bad roads, finally arriving near 11pm. However, one of my favorite memories from that weekend was the first five min. we were there. It was really snowing, and everything was peaceful an quiet and Scott came out to greet us with a huge smile on his face. It was magical... I could have stood in the snow at the moment for hours. We spent the weekend catching up, feeding, taking pictures, and burning slash piles. We had SUCH a great time. We even drove into town to eat at the Hotel Condon, it was so fun to be treated to a nice dinner with such good friends.
This past week we were back in the swing of things at work. At school I had a Winter Program and lots of 'winter' activities to plan for. In kindergarten we made reindeer that are so cute, and in first grade we wrote Santa, Santa stories. We also wrote letters to Santa Claus and are looking forward to seeing them printed in the local newspaper.
Brandon was hard at work on the McKenzie River, working on the Spores Bridge. Although, he was home early two nights this week, and so he treated me to dinner and Christmas music when I got home around 7pm each night.
Thursday was Brandon's job holiday party.. we all met at a local restaurant in Springfield and had a great time celebrating a job well done with the crew.
And that brings me to this weekend. It is Saturday morning and I am still in my PJ's, cleaning house and getting things back in order. We had an incident with our chimney awhile back, and Brandon fixed it last night... however I was left with a thick coat of soot over my entire house...

Here is the pictorial chronicle of our last week...

Feeding the cows each morning.

Scott using the handy dandy one man feeding mechanism.

My handsome husband helping.

We helped the neighbors feed one morning, so here we are, feeding once again.

Brandon and I at the slash pile. I don't think we have had our picture taken since our honeymoon! We had such a great time burning slash piles, we drank some beer, had good conversation and kept plenty warm in the 6 degree weather.

This was the crew for the weekend... Scott, our friend Ashley, myself, and Brandon... and don't forget Gus the dog!

It's almost dark and we are having a great time. At this point we are considering driving into town to eat at the fanciest restaurant in Condon, the Hotel Condon. I think we are dressed appropriately, don't you? haha!

Our fire at dark.

sick day

I'm laying in bed right now, at 11:00am on a Thursday. I didn't fully wake up until after nine. I am still in my pj's, drinking orange juice and have watched more tv this morning than I have all week. I'm sick.
I don't like to take sick days. I WANT to be with my kids. I want to help them learn the 'helper letter A'. I want to do an art project so we can decorate the hallway. I want to help them learn to write their last names. But I just couldn't do it today. So thankful I made this choice, because as I woke up this morning, I knew it was the right one. And I'll be back up river tomorrow bright and early (but maybe still sick...).
Today will be a day of naps, a day of listening to the rain from my log bed and Pendleton blanket. A day of washing the sheets and wiping down counters and showers. Go away little germs, go away. Today will be a day of being thankful for Puffs Kleenex (no paper towels or tp for me today!) and good magazines.
It's hard for me to take a day, because I have a list of things to do. And since I'm here, I want to accomplish some of these things, but I'm not sure I can. My head feels funny, I'm sneezing, my hands are shaky, and I feel weak. I think I will pick a couple things (like sheets and counters) and see how I'm feeling.

Thanksgiving - finally

Finally I have a few minutes to sit down and post some pictures from our Thanksgiving. We spent most of our time this year up at Black Mountain with the Young's'. (Next year will be the year for my family) We got in late Wednesday night after a 6 and 1/2 hour drive through Sisters, Madras, Fossil, Condon, and Heppner, before we finally made it 'home'. Thursday we spent the day in town, and celebrated with Brandon's grandparents. It was so much fun, I got to look through old family photo albums (Brandon's grandma keeps all the mementos- so cool!) and I think I am starting to learn family names and lineages.
Friday we were back up at the house making homemade wreaths, lighting slash piles, and celebrating Luke's birthday. We had a great dinner, played in the snow, roasted hot dogs, drank hot cocoa, and sang the birthday song over and over. (sorry Luke). That night Luke, Brandon and I got out of the house for a few hours by going for a drive. We didn't really see many animals, but it was fun to visit with him one on one.

Saturday morning we packed up all of our things (we were loaded down) and headed for Pilot Rock. We had a nice visit over there and mom fixed us a great dinner. Then we were on our way to Condon to see our best friend Scott out at the Lost Valley Ranch. We got there late that night and stayed up visiting. Sunday we ate a wonderful breakfast, fed cows, helped Scott pack up some things for his new house, and then headed on our way again, this time headed for Eugene. Wow- we were busy! haha

Those weekends are always so hectic, but also so fun. We love seeing as many people as we can, doing things out of the ordinary for our lives in Eugene and catching up on stories. Can't wait till Christmas!
